School Programs & Outreach

School Programs

We provide education to all ages, including K-12 students! Partners of Scott County Watersheds offers free, hands-on water quality programs that supplement NGSS standards.

Program Offerings

Watershed Demonstration Model/ Enviroscape

Students will learn what a watershed is, common water pollutants, the importance of healthy watersheds, and how they can make a difference.

Grades: 2nd – 12th
30 minutes – 1 hour

Water Quality Testing-
Chemical Parameters

Become a water quality scientist by testing a stream, pond, or lake for chemical water quality parameters using field equipment!

Grades: 5th – 12th
30 minutes – 1 hour

Water Quality Testing- Biological Parameters

Dive deep into aquatic ecosystems! Students will learn about the organisms living in freshwater, survey their findings, and interpret water quality.

Grades: 2nd – 12th
45 minutes – 1.5 hours

Soil Quality Demonstration

There’s a whole world beneath our feet! Students will learn about soil types, the importance of healthy soils, and how soil can affect the health of watersheds.

Grades: 2nd – 12th
30 minutes – 1 hour

Native Plants of Iowa & Illinois

Native plants have adapted to our Midwest environment over time. Students will learn about the difference between native, non-native, and invasive species, along with adaptations and ecosystem functions of native plants.

Grades: 3rd – 12th
30 minutes – 1 hour

Trash Cleanup

Take your class to make a difference in the community! Engage in community service and improve the health of our watersheds by picking up trash. Students will learn research skills by collecting trash data and making inferences.

Grades: All
30 minutes+

Outreach

Our watershed education programs aren’t restricted to the classroom. We are happy to provide programs to any group, whether it be a scout troop, Rotary meeting, or community event. To request an outreach program or speaking engagement, complete the form below.
