We believe there is value is place-based education, or information specific to an individual site. Since we can’t be everywhere at once to provide this information, we’ve designed and installed series of watershed education signage throughout the county. Check out some of the series below!
Duck Creek Parkway
Take a hike or ride your bike along the Duck Creek and your bound to see at least one of these signs! In 2021, PSCW received funding from Scott County Regional Authority to create and install 50 new signs. With two designs, these signs educate Duck Creek Parkway users about the watershed they recreate in and ways to protect its health.
Silver Creek
In a partnership between PSCW, the City of Davenport, and Augustana College, students assessed the health and social dynamics of the Silver Creek Watershed in 2022. Through this assessment, Augustana students found that people living near Silver Creek felt a connection to the waterway and attributed it to their sense of place. Additionally, students identified concerns from residents regarding uncertainty about management contacts and decisions.
To address these concerns, Partners of Scott County Watersheds and the City of Davenport are installing these signs along Silver Creek in residential areas with the intent to inform readers of the creek’s relation to the overall watershed, explicitly name management, and provide a contact for questions/concerns.
We hope that these signs will allow residents to better understand what’s happening in the watershed around them and provide an avenue to learn more and get involved in improvement efforts.
