The Mississippi River Plastic Pollution Initiative launched in the Quad Cities in October, 2021. Through the success of this initiative, working with the CEC (Commission for Environmental Cooperation) in conjunction with EPA, the quad cities were selected as part of multinational pilot project to reduce land-based sources of marine litter throughout North America. Learn about the process and results of the Mississippi River Plastic Pollution Initiative, data collected since, and next steps toward reducing plastic pollution.

About the Speaker
Jennifer Wendt began her career in environmental stewardship by receiving a degree in Chemistry and working in environmental laboratories analyzing soil, water, and wastewater for contamination. Ms. Wendt moved from the laboratory to municipal work, then joined MRCTI in 2018 as the Plastic Waste Reduction Campaign Manager for the Mississippi River watershed. Ms. Wendt also works at BFA Engineering focusing on storm water and floodplain management.
