In September, Partners of Scott County Watersheds joined the Mississippi River Plastic Pollution Initiative through the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative. Though this work will carry on for years, this October is the time to act! Learn more and join the initiative too!
This initiative involves working with community volunteers to collect data along the Mississippi River in order to increase our understanding of the state of plastic pollution. This data is being generated through a ‘citizen science’ approach using a free mobile app for tracking upstream and coastal litter called the Debris Tracker.
The Debris Tracker works to collect categorical and geospatial information on the trash and debris that eventually finds its way into the Mississippi River. Partners of Scott County Watersheds are taking part by helping to spread the word and coordinate cleanup and data collection events.
